Meaning
The kitchen grater — the perforated metal tool used constantly in Jamaican cooking to grate coconut for milk and 'drops', ginger, nutmeg, cho-cho, cheese, and the sweet potato for pone. So central is grating that the 'grater cake' (a coconut sweet) is named for it. A well-used grater, worn smooth, is a fixture of the kitchen.
