How the Patois crossword works

These are free-form crosswords: the words interlock with space around them, which is how vocabulary crosswords are built. Fill in every word, and the ones that cross give you letters to work from. The number in brackets after a clue is the length of the answer, and a phrase such as (3,5) is typed as one run of letters.

Every clue is written from the dictionary entry it belongs to, so a puzzle cannot drift from the words it teaches. When you finish, each answer shows its meaning, its pronunciation and an example sentence, with a link to its full entry.

Patois has no single official spelling, so the game accepts the other spellings the dictionary records. You can print any puzzle from your browser’s print menu. Prefer a different kind of game? Try the daily word game Guess Di Word or a Patois quiz, or see all the games.
