Meaning
A taxi driver — the man who runs a route or charter taxi, a familiar figure of Jamaican transport. The 'taxi man' knows every road, every shortcut, and everybody's business; he picks up along the route (as a shared 'robot' or licensed cab), calls out his destination, and is a fixture of daily commuting and community life.
