Meaning
A licensed shared taxi that runs a fixed route, picking up and dropping passengers along the way for a set fare. Packed tight and moving fast, the route taxi is the backbone of everyday public transport in Jamaica, working the roads alongside the buses and minibuses and carrying people between town, district, and market. Cheap, frequent, and everywhere, it is how most people get about, and the driver hustling for a full car of passengers is a constant sight and sound of the Jamaican road.
