Charter

verb CHAA-ta ˈtʃaːta

Also spelled chaata, charta

To hire a taxi (or bus) exclusively for yourself, rather than sharing it as a route 'robot' with other passengers — you pay for the whole vehicle to take you directly. 'Mi a charter di taxi' means you've booked it privately. As a noun, a 'charter' is such a private hire.

  • Mi charter a taxi fi go straight home.

  • It cost more fi charter dan fi tek robot.

  • Dem charter a bus fi di outing.

From English 'charter' (to hire exclusively); contrasted with the shared 'robot' route taxi. See [[route-taxi]], [[robot]].
