Meaning
A spicy Jamaican pickled-fish paste — smoked herring (and sometimes shad) pounded fine with onion, scotch bonnet, pimento, and vinegar into a strong, salty, fiery relish. Spread on crackers or hard-dough bread, solomon gundy is a punchy snack and appetiser, small amounts going a long way. It is one of the classic Jamaican preserved 'pickle' foods.
