Meaning
Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia (1892–1975) — revered by Rastafari as the living manifestation of God (Jah) on earth, the returned Messiah, and King of Kings. The Roman numeral 'I' (one) is read as the Rasta 'I', so 'Selassie I' proclaims both his title and the divine 'I' at the heart of Rasta identity. His pre-coronation name, Ras Tafari, gives the movement its name.
