Meaning
The act of spinning a record back to replay a tune the crowd loves — the same, in effect, as a 'pull-up' or 'wheel-up'. When a song sets the dance alight, the crowd roars for a rewind so the selector runs it back from the top, and the more rewinds a tune pulls, the greater its triumph. One of the defining rituals of the sound-system dance, the rewind is the crowd's highest, most immediate mark of approval, demanding to hear a killer track again and again.
