Meaning
A low boot or shoe that rises just to or a little above the ankle — a 'quarter' boot, so called for covering only a small part of the leg, as against a full high boot. Sturdy and closed, the quarter boot was a common good shoe for work, school, and dressing up, and the term is one of the settled Jamaican names for a style of footwear by how high it comes up the foot.
