Merino

noun me-REE-no mɛˈriːno

Also spelled merino, marino, mereno

A man's undershirt or vest — the cotton, often ribbed, sleeveless or short-sleeved top worn next to the skin under a shirt, or on its own in the heat and around the yard. In Jamaica the word 'merino' is the ordinary name for this everyday undergarment (what others might call a vest or singlet), taken from the merino wool the garments were once made from. A clean white merino is a small mark of a tidy man.
