Meaning
The big spoon (or flat wooden 'pot stick') used to stir the pot, turn the food, and dish it up — a fixture of the Jamaican kitchen. The pot spoon stirs the rice and peas, turns the cornmeal, and 'draws' the soup for tasting; and, in many a childhood, it doubled as the instrument of discipline when a licking was due.
