Meaning
A farmer's cultivated plot — the piece of land, often up in the hills or bush away from the house, where a person grows their food crops and ground provisions. 'Him gone a him ground' means he's gone to work his plot. More than a field, 'the ground' is the source of a country family's food and livelihood, tended with cutlass and fork.
