Meaning
A small portable cooking stove or brazier that burns wood charcoal ('coal') — a cast-iron or sheet-metal pot-stand with a grate, on which a Dutch pot or frying pan sits over glowing coals. Before gas stoves were common, the coal pot cooked the family meals, and it is still fired up for its smoky flavour and when the current is gone.
