Meaning
The mound of loose, heaped-up earth into which a yam head is planted so the tuber can grow down deep and be dug out easily. Building the yam hills — chopping and mounding the soil with a fork or hoe — is heavy, skilled work at the start of the planting season, and a field of neat yam hills marching up a hillside is a familiar sight in Jamaican yam country.
