Meaning
A brittle sweet made from sesame seeds bound together with melted sugar or syrup into a hard, crunchy bar or cake — and, by the same name, the sesame plant and seed itself. Wangla is one of the old African-derived Jamaican confections, sold in squares by higglers and roadside vendors, and the word comes straight from a West African name for the sesame seed.
