Meaning
The rhythmic, foot-stamping, over-breathing worship of Revival and Zion churches — believers circle counter-clockwise, bending and stamping in time while exhaling forcefully ('labouring in the spirit') to build spiritual power and invite possession by the Holy Spirit or the spirits. Trumping and labouring are the beating heart of Afro-Jamaican Revival worship.
