Meaning
Jumping rope — a favourite girls' playground game where two turn a long rope while others jump in and out in time, often to chants and counting rhymes ('one, two, my black shoe...'). Games of 'double dutch' (two ropes) and 'pepper' (fast turning) test nerve and timing. Skipping is a staple of Jamaican break-time, full of song, rhythm, and friendly competition.
