Meaning
To place a protective obeah charm — a 'guard' — to defend a person, home, business, or field from harm, thieves, or evil-wishers. A 'guard' might be a bottle buried at the gate, an object hung over the door, or a charm worn on the body, prepared by a science man. To 'set a guard' or be 'guarded up' is to be spiritually protected against those who would do you harm.
