Meaning
A brightly coloured reef fish with a beak-like mouth, one of the most popular eating fish in Jamaica — especially fried whole and crisp, or steamed. Sweet and firm, parrot-fish is a favourite at the fish beach and cook-shop. (Ecologically it is vital to the reef, and overfishing it is a growing concern.)
