Mad

adjective MAD mild

Mad — in Patois usually means mentally unwell or acting crazy, more than merely angry. 'Him mad' says a person is deranged or behaving wildly; 'yuh mad?' challenges someone doing something foolish. Milder, it can mark wild excitement ('di place mad!'). 'Head nuh good' says the same of the mind.

  • Yuh mad? Yuh cyaa do dat!

Are you crazy? You can't do that!

  • Di dance mad, whole heap a people!

The dance was wild — a whole heap of people!

From English 'mad' (the 'insane/crazy' sense dominant). See [[head-nuh-good]], [[craze]].

Mentally unwell/acting crazy; also 'wild/hyped' ('di place mad').
