Meaning
Two connected senses. Literally, to fire a gun. In the dance, to 'lick a shot' is to let off a gun salute — or, as real gunfire faded, to make the mouth-'shot' sound ('bap!') or shout of approval for a hot tune, the way a crowd hails a big track. 'Lick a shot fi di selecta!' calls for that noisy salute.
