Meaning
A tank of pesticide, herbicide, or fertilizer solution carried on the back and pumped by hand, worn like a bag while spraying a field. The knapsack sprayer — the 'back-can' — is standard equipment for the small farmer, strapped on and pumped along the rows to spray the crops. It is heavy, sweaty work under the sun, and the smell of the mixture is part of every farming week.
