Meaning
An armed criminal — a shooter, a man who carries and uses a gun for robbery, enforcement, or gang war. 'Gunman' is the everyday news-and-street word for the figure at the centre of Jamaica's crime and violence, feared and talked about constantly, from the headlines to the dancehall lyric. It carries none of the glamour of some slang terms; it names plainly the danger of an armed man.
