Meaning
The great Christmas Eve celebration, when the towns fill up and the shopping, eating, and street revelry run late into the night of December 24th. Grand Market is part last-minute Christmas shopping — toys, clothes, treats — and part street fair, with vendors, music, lights, and crowds out enjoying themselves. For generations of Jamaicans it is the peak of the Christmas season, especially magical for children.
