Meaning
A diving mask used for spearfishing and free-diving on the reef — often, in the old days, home-made from wood or rubber and a piece of glass. To go 'goggle diving' is to swim down with the goggle and a spear or Hawaiian sling to catch fish and lobster, a skilled and traditional way of fishing along the Jamaican coast. Usually spoken of in the singular, 'the goggle', for the whole diving outfit.
