Meaning
A versatile little exclamation and question-tag. As a tag on the end of a statement, 'eeh?' invites agreement — 'nice, eeh?' means 'nice, isn't it?'. On its own, 'eeh?' asks 'what? / huh? / say again?', and drawn out ('eeeh!') it can express surprise or delight.
Examples
-
Di food good, eeh?
The food is good, isn't it?
-
Eeh? Wah yuh seh?
Huh? What did you say?
-
Eeeh! Yuh really win?
Really?! You actually won?
Origin
An expressive interjection/question-tag of imitative origin, common across Caribbean speech.
How it’s used
A question-tag ('nice, eeh?' = isn't it?), a 'huh?' request to repeat, or drawn-out surprise. Very common.
