Dream book

noun DREAM BOOK driːm bʊk

Also spelled dream-book, number book

A book that assigns a number and meaning to the things you dream about — used to turn a dream into a bet on the numbers lottery ('Cash Pot', 'drop pan'). Dream of a dead relative, a snake, a wedding, or a fish, and you look it up in the dream book to find the number to play. A cornerstone of Jamaica's numbers-gambling culture, where dreams are read as tips from the spirit world.
