Meaning
A two-wheeled cart pulled by a donkey — the traditional country vehicle for hauling produce, water drums, wood, and goods to and from the field and the market. The 'dray' or donkey cart, with the donkey plodding and the driver perched on top, was for generations the workhorse of rural transport, and it is still seen on country roads, a slow, patient survivor of an earlier time.
