Craven-eye

adjective KRIE-vn eye ˈkreːvn aɪ

Also spelled craven eye, craven-yeye

Greedy-eyed — eyeing food or things hungrily and wanting more than your share, from 'craven' (greedy). Where 'red-eye' is envious of what others have, 'craven-eye' is the greed that eyes the last piece on the plate or piles the plate too high. It goes with the proverb 'craven choke puppy' — greed brings you to grief.

  • Nuh be craven-eye, lef some fi di odda people.

Don't be greedy-eyed; leave some for the others.

  • Him craven-eye di whole plate a food.

He greedily eyed the whole plate of food.

  • Craven-eye mek yuh tek more dan yuh can eat.

Greed makes you take more than you can eat.

From 'craven' (greedy) + 'eye' (yeye); greedy-eyed. See [[craven]], [[craven-choke-puppy]].

Greedy-eyed for food/things (vs 'red-eye' = envious). See [[craven]], [[craven-choke-puppy]], [[long-eye]].
