Cratches

noun KRA-chiz mild

Also spelled cratchiz, cratchez

The crotch: the part of the body where the legs join the trunk, and the same place on a pair of trousers. Jamaicans say it in the plural even for one person, so the word is 'cratches', not 'cratch'.

  • Yuh pants cratches split, go change it.

Your pants have split at the crotch, go and change them.

  • Mi baby have a rash inna him cratches.

My baby has a rash in his crotch.

A plain body word, but it names a private area, so it does not belong in formal or polite talk. Not the same word as 'cratch', which means to scratch. See Batty.
