Meaning
Back home — at one's own yard, home, or home country — and also the ordinary, grassroots, back-of-the-yard side of Jamaican life. For the diaspora especially, 'back a yaad' means back home in Jamaica, heavy with longing and belonging: the place, the people, and the ways one comes from. It can name the literal home ground behind the house, or the whole homeland and its roots culture, and it is spoken with deep warmth by Jamaicans near and far.
