Ackee-walk

noun AK-ki WAAK ˈaki waːk

Also spelled ackee walk, akee walk

A grove or stand of ackee trees. This uses the older rural sense of 'walk' — a cultivated plot or grove of a single crop — also heard in 'banana walk', 'coffee walk', and 'coconut walk'. An ackee-walk is the part of the land where the ackee trees grow and are picked in season.

  • Wi go a di ackee-walk fi pick some.

We went to the ackee grove to pick some.

  • Di ackee-walk full a fruit dis season.

The ackee grove is full of fruit this season.

  • Him have a banana walk an a ackee-walk.

He has a banana grove and an ackee grove.

From 'ackee' + 'walk' in the rural sense of a grove/plot of one crop (compare 'banana walk'). See [[ackee]].

A grove of ackee trees; 'walk' = a single-crop grove/plot (banana walk, coffee walk). See [[ackee]], [[grung-provision]].
