Meaning
A fake, worthless, or disappointing thing — or a person who turns out to be all show and no substance. If something promised big but flopped, 'a wamp dat', and if a man boasts loudly but cannot deliver, 'him a wamp'. Cousin to being a fraud or a let-down, the word names the hollow, the phoney, and the disappointing, whatever proves empty behind its front. It belongs to the frank Jamaican vocabulary of calling out the fake and the failed, the puffed-up nothing that turns out to be worth nothing at all.
