Meaning
The variety of cassava that is low in the toxic compounds and safe to eat after simple boiling or roasting, unlike the bitter kind that must be pressed and processed. Sweet cassava is treated as an ordinary ground provision — boiled as 'food' with the dinner or roasted — and its ease of preparation is exactly what its name marks off against bitter cassava.
