Meaning
An uppity, snobbish person who acts high-class and looks down on others — a clipping of 'aristocrat'. A 'risto' puts on airs of superiority and grand refinement, and to 'act risto' is to behave stuck-up and above ordinary people. Close in feel to 'stush', 'stoosh', and 'topanoris', it belongs to the sharp Jamaican vocabulary of class and pretension, mocking those who carry themselves as too fine and important for common folk. The word cuts the pretender down, naming the false grandeur of the one who plays the aristocrat.
