Meaning
A cat — the ordinary household or yard cat. 'Puss' is the everyday word, warm and plain, and it runs through a whole tradition of proverb about slyness, luck, and patience: 'when puss belly full, rat batty bitter', or the caution that puss and dog don't share the same luck. To 'walk like puss' is to move quiet and careful.
