Meaning
A big, round, protruding belly — a 'pot belly' or 'pot-gut', shaped like a cooking pot. Usually said of a man who has developed a paunch (often teasingly linked to too much food and beer), it is a plain, everyday description of a sizeable stomach. Distinct from the swollen 'water belly' or 'bang belly' of illness, a pot belly comes from good living.
