Meaning
A verandah, porch, or covered walkway at the front of a house or shop — an old-time word for the shaded outdoor sitting area where people relax in the cool, watch the road, and 'reason' with neighbours. In town, the 'piazza' also names the covered pavement or arcade in front of downtown shops. A place of ease, conversation, and community life.
