People will always talk, gossip, and give their opinion — the mouth was made for talking, so you cannot stop it. Said to shrug off gossip and criticism: let them run their mouths, it means nothing. It can also gently defend idle chat ('the mouth is for talking'), but most often it dismisses the chatter of others as not worth minding.
