Meaning
The woman who assists at childbirth — from the trained nurse-midwife at the clinic or hospital to, traditionally, the community 'granny midwife' who delivered babies at home. In a country where the midwife has long been at the heart of bringing new life, she is trusted and respected, guiding the mother through labour and caring for the newborn.
