Meaning
Hurry up; be quick — 'make haste'. 'Mek haste, wi late!' urges someone to get a move on. A common, slightly old-fashioned way of telling someone to speed up, still heard from parents and elders chivvying children along, and set against the more relaxed Jamaican relationship with time.
