Meaning
To fetch and collect water — going to the standpipe, river, or tank to fill buckets and drums for the household, and to catch rainwater off the roof into the catchment. In areas without piped water indoors, 'ketch water' is a daily chore, often a child's job, and the standpipe where you catch it is a place of neighbourhood meeting.
