Meaning
Jealous — envious of what another person has, or possessive over a lover. In Jamaican use 'jealous' leans heavily toward the envy that a neighbour or 'friend' feels for your success, blessings, or good fortune, close to 'bad mind' and 'grudgeful'; to be 'jealous over' someone is the other sense, of a possessive partner. Watching out for the jealous, grudging eye of others is a constant theme in Jamaican life, song, and warning.
