Hag

verb HAG haɡ

Also spelled hog, hag up

To pester, nag, or crowd someone persistently — 'stop hag mi' means stop bothering and nagging me. It can also mean to crowd or hog space and things, as in 'dem a hag up di whole place', taking up more than one's share. (Note that 'hag' is also simply a Patois pronunciation of 'hog', the pig.) In its nagging sense the word names the wearing, relentless bother of someone forever at you, pressing, pestering, and giving no peace, a familiar grievance of crowded, close-quartered life.

  • Stop hag mi bout di money.

Stop nagging me about the money.

  • Di pickney dem a hag mi fi sweetie.

The children are pestering me for sweets.

  • Dem hag up di whole bench.

    They hogged the whole bench.

To pester/nag (related to 'hag'/'harass'); also a Patois pronunciation of 'hog' (pig).

To pester/nag/crowd; 'hag' also = 'hog' (pig). Compare 'tantalize', 'tek set'.
