Meaning
Greedy — grasping for more than one's share, especially of food. A 'greedy' person eats too much, too fast, or won't share, and to be called greedy is a real reproach, close in meaning to 'craven' and 'likky-likky'. Children are scolded for being greedy at the table, and the word extends to grasping after money, land, or anything else. It sits at the heart of a whole cluster of Jamaican words for the vice of wanting too much.
