Meaning
A school writing book — the thin ruled notebook in which pupils do their lessons, sums, and compositions, one for each subject. The exercise book (or 'copy book') is a fixture of the Jamaican schoolchild's bag, bought fresh at the start of term, covered in brown paper or plastic to keep it neat, and filled with the day's work under the teacher's red-pen marking.
