Meaning

Drum names two things in Jamaican life. In music it is the hand or stick drum at the heart of Nyabinghi, kumina, and revival, carrying the deep pulse of the ceremony. In the yard it is the metal barrel — the 'drum' or 'pan' set under the eaves as a catchment to store rainwater.
