Meaning
A field or plot planted in corn — a 'piece' being a Jamaican word for a plot of cultivated ground, as in cane-piece. The corn piece is where the maize is grown, guarded from birds and praedial thieves, and reaped for roasting, boiling, and grinding into cornmeal. It sits among the small farmer's other pieces and provision ground as part of the patchwork of hillside cultivation.
