Meaning
The graveyard or 'burying ground' — a place charged with meaning in Jamaican folk belief, home to the duppies (spirits) of the dead. People pass it warily, especially at 'duppy time' (dusk and night), and old customs (walking backwards, carrying protection) guard against the spirits that dwell there.
