Cassia

noun KAS-sia ˈkasia

Also spelled cassia, casha, shower of gold

A flowering tree of the cassia family, several kinds of which grow in Jamaica — from the golden-flowered 'shower of gold' that blazes yellow in season, to the long-podded kinds whose dark pulp ('cassia fistula') is used as a folk laxative and 'wash out'. Beautiful in bloom and useful in bush medicine, cassia is both an ornamental and a remedy tree.
